Clare's Story
Hello, I’m Clare – a dog photographer, mum of three, and the heart behind the Dog Book Project. Dogs have always been part of my life, and turning my camera on them felt completely natural. After moving to Devon and working as a social media manager, life took an unexpected turn. Following months of chest infections and hospital appointments, I was diagnosed with mesothelioma – an incurable, asbestos-related cancer – in March 2025.
With the support of my family, my team at Torbay Hospital, and Mesothelioma UK, I decided to turn this diagnosis into something positive. The Dog Book Project is my way of combining what I love – photographing dogs – with raising awareness and funds for a charity that’s helped me so much.

HOW THE DOG BOOK PROJECT BEGAN
What is The Dog Book Project:
The Dog Book Project is a photography initiative bringing together dogs, their humans, and a shared purpose: to raise awareness and vital funds for Mesothelioma UK. Dog owners are invited to take part in a professional photo shoot, with the aim of featuring their furry friends in a beautifully designed coffee table book. Profits from the sale of the book will be donated to Mesothelioma UK to support people living with mesothelioma and to help fund crucial work around this incurable cancer.

Why This Project Matters
Mesothelioma is a rare, aggressive cancer most often linked to asbestos exposure. It has traditionally been seen as an “old man’s disease”, but that’s no longer the full story. More women and younger people are being diagnosed – often after long delays, because the illness isn’t always recognised in these groups.
Raising awareness can save lives. It encourages earlier diagnosis, helps people understand the risks, and drives support and funding for better treatments and care. By taking part in the Dog Book Project, you’re helping to turn wagging tails and joyful images into real hope for people affected by mesothelioma.
